Ok, i know, Gamecube is like the forgotten Senior Citizen of nintendo systems, but i like it, in fact i use it more then my PS2. But i use mySuper Nintendo the most (old school rox). I was playing a really cool game called Gladius. It is about a hero named Valens, who inherited his fathers (Munio) gladiator school with his life long friend Ludo, and his fathers best friend Usus. They live in a place called Imperia (which is the same as Rome, but with a different name lol), and the Imperials are the most civilized. Ludo and Valens reruit men and fight in arenas in Imperia to gain badges, and popularity as they rise from amature school to professionals. Valens goal is to compete in the Caltha High Tournaments, but to do so, he must first win four major tournaments in four different realms. Once they win the Tournament in Imperia, they travel to Nordagh, the land of the German Barbarians. There they gain adience with the monarch, King Orin III. His daughter, Ursula, joins Valens and Ludo, much to Ludo's dismay, and also to her twin brother Urlan's dismay. Urlan reluctantly joins them, only to protect his sister, he is not open minded, and he thinks that the Imperials are untrustworthy, and they think that they are above everyone else. Ludo does think that Imperials are above everyone else, and he thinks that the barbarians try to push their beleifs on them, and he feels that Valens and his school should only be Imperials, because if it isnt, then it will be weaker, and un-united. They recruit some people from this realm, and learn new skills; and eventually win the Nordagh Tournament. They go to the Windward Steppes (A fictional place in modern day China and Japan), a large flat plain. They are at an arena when they are talking about recruiting an archer, because archers are prevalent there due to the fact that the flat terrain is an advantage for archers. A woman archer named Eiji overhears them, and asks to join, and the Schools overseer, and Munio's best friend, tells her she has to pass a test, and she does, so she joins, again, much to Ludo's dismay, he thinks that Valens has lost sight of their gaol, and that he is making the school weak. As they fight through the arenas earning badges, recruiting samnites and archers, and buying weapons, Urlan notices the great number of archers and says that they are cowardly (i agree) because they cant fight toe to toe with him, and Eiji says she is weak, and cant overpower him, so she, as an archer, uses her bow to her advantage, and Urlan becomes a little more open minded, but still refuses to give up his barbaric beleifs. They fight against some Dark Legionaires, and they sense evil at work, after the battle is wonn, a mage named Nephilia come over to them and senses Ludo's anger and frustration, and she plays on his insecurities. She flirts with Ludo and tells him to join her, and Ludo refuses. He is sad that he did, and Valens tries to comfort him saying that it was the right thing to do, and Ludo says "Save your wisdom for someone who cares." They continue on to the Windward Steppes Tournament, and win, and then Nephilia turns Ludo against his friend, and he joins her. Then the school travels to win their last tournament, in the desert region called the Southern Expanse. When they go there, they see a black man named Gwazi being ambushed by bandits. They save him, and he repays them by joining their school. They fight through many battles, and then in one battle, they see an old former ally, Ludo. Ludo fights against them in the Tournament, but he looses, and Valens tells him that he has failed him as a friend and a brother, and he tells him that Munio would be dissapointed. Then Valens and his team travel the desert and Gwazi tells them that bandits stole a magical stone, and he leads them to a temple. It is a trap, and Gwazi has four mages waiting there to kill them, but the attempted murder fails as Valens and his friends destroy Gwazi and the mages. They left immediately to head to the Caltha High Tournament to compete. After fighting against archers, minotaurs, satyrs, peltasts, legionaires, centurions, and samnites, they finally won the tournament. Then a dark evil had been awokened in secret by Nephilia, and then Usus told Valens and Ursula that they had to slay the dark god. Valens went to a temple to talk to the Channelers who Channel the Power of the Gods. At the temple they are attacked by a giant fat guy with a huge spiked club called the Tower of Hate. It took valens, Ursula, Urlan, and Eiji just to take him down. They proceeded into the temple, and the Channelers told them that Ursula was the chosen one. Valens, Ursulsa, Urlan, and Eiji fight the Dark God, and seal the portal, but at a great cost; Ursula died in combat against the Dark God. Valens and Urlan saw her ghost and Valens told her that she was in love with her, and Urlan said goodbye to his sister, and she went up to heaven.
This game is fun because you get to be a large variety of fighters (men and women), use a large variety of weapons armor and shields, and you get to fight in many different arenas. You can be a Samnite, Satyr, Yeti, Undead Legionaires, Dark Legionaires, Archers, Amazons, Barbarians, Bears, Wolves, Peltasts, Gungnirs, Berserkers, Channelers, Summoners, Skeletons, Dervishes, Bandits, Scorpions, Legionnaires, Minatours, and Centurions.
